Sheffield started well and had two good efforts inside the opening 10 minutes. The all was cleared to the edge of the area, where Sam Wills launched a volley at goal which was saved by Leigh Walker. On 12 minutes, a dangerous ball into the box went through a crowd of players and arrived at the feet of the oncoming Longstaff, but his first time shot was deflected out for a corner. From the corner, Kirk Jackson flashed a header just over the bar. After 25 minutes, Longstaff put the ball into the net after a cross by Adams, but the effort was ruled out for offside, and in the final chance of the half a mistake by the Sheffield defence gifted the ball to Ed Ryan, but his shot went wide.

8 minutes after the break, a shot from Longstaff went just wide before Willenhall had two efforts on the hour mark. Firstly a counter attack saw Terence Morton square the ball to Nghishidimbwa, but he was tightly marked and couldn’t get a shot off on goal. Seconds later Nghishidimbwa did well to win the ball in the air, and his shot was saved by Walker. On 63 minutes Matt Outram saw his shot well blocked by Chris Porter, and 6 minutes later Ryan’s cross come shot was just wide of the left hand post. Sheffield came close to breaking the deadlock on 76 minutes, a well hit volley at goal following a corner was destined for the net had Wills not been there to clear off the line. Sheffield did break the deadlock 2 minutes later, when a corner from the right into the heart of the Willenhall 6 yard box found the head of Jon Hobson, who powerfully headed past Jackson.
