On 17 minutes, Tom Jones managed to weave past a couple of challenges, but his shot was saved by Matt Jones. The game became scrappy, with chances at a premium, but those that did come went the way of Sheffield, and on 27 minutes, Brian Cusworth headed the ball down, and a shot from 10 yards was over the bar. 10 minutes later Sheffield had the ball in the net following a good diving header, but the effort was ruled out for offside. Whilst the final effort of the half saw Jone alert enough to parry a corner from the right over the bar.

2 minutes after the break and a fine double stop from Jones kept the scores level, after he saved efforts from Cusworth and Ashley Longstaff. On 54 minutes, Jones was again on hand to save a header from Cusworth, while 2 minutes later, a rare Willenhall attack saw Jamall Pinnock head the ball into the path of Alex Roofe, but his 25 yard shot was wide. On the hour mark Matthew Roney did well to cut in from the left, but his shot was over the bar. The deadlock was broken on 62 minutes, as a corner from the left was converted 6 yards out by Gavin Smith. 2 minutes later and Longstaff almost added a second, but his volley was straight at Jones. Jamie Jackson came on for Sheffield, and the tricky winger managed to evade two challenges, before seeing his shot saved by the legs of Jones. But Jackson did find his way onto the scoresheet on 76 minutes, as he drove the ball home from 10 yards, after Jones had committed himself to saving a shot from Matty Thorpe. The scoring was completed on 86 minutes, as a cross by Jackson was punched clear by Jones, but only to Steven Woolley, who tapped in from 6 yards.
