Start of next season

Postby The Reasonable Man on Fri May 28, 2010 8:30 pm

So we're going to kick off in August at Bromsgrove rather than the Temple of Doom (so I read in the Stourbridge News). "Uncertainty surrounding the Yeltz" apparently (whatever can they mean???).

Reading Bromsgrove's forum I get the impression that their ground is currently going to rack and ruin and the Council are still to decide who will be leaseholders come August - Rovers or the newly-formed Bromsgrove Sporting. Add to that the involvement there of a certain "larger than life" (larger than most things, come to think of it) former Glassboys manager, and I think I'd rather we played at........

Nah, can't do it. I'd still rather play on a ploughed field over the back of Kinver than see my money go to the Devils in Blue. Bromsgrove it is!

I'm with you on this. After the farce of last season (not HT's fault it has to be said) I'd much rather go somewhere else.

If their ground was up to standard I would have suggested going up the Dell with Dudley Town, but it isn't :violin:

How do they expect people to get to Bromsgrove, cuz unless you drive the bus service is rubbish compared to HT :hmm: And I don't care how many home matches we have to play there, I will only do 1 sponsored walk :scarf: :ugeek:

This seems a very strange arrangement to me. The Stourbridge News says we are playing at Bromsgrove but nothing on the official website. Bromsgrove council apparently have not decided who they are going to give the lease to yet. Therefore who is our lease agreed with. Is it BRFC or the council and have we paid any money over yet.

Looking at their website the pitch needs a lot of work.

It would appear to me that we are not better off going to Bromsgrove at present than if we had been playing at The Grove.

Agree with Mandy's comments as well that it is easy to get to The Grove than the Victoria Ground and have seen the post about car sharing. What ever is done these will be our lowest crowds of the season you would expect.

I wonder if the club tried Aggborough surely a safe bet and at least it is easier to get there.

I just hope everything turns out right for us as i would hate us to be worse off by the decision to go to Bromsgrove.

We should be celebrating not having to play at The Grove not moaning. Can't let a minority affect a majority etc...

People are entitled to their opinion Stourboy. I personally have grave misgivings about playing at Bromsgrove. It looks very much like another 'pay up front and end up cutting the pitch and painting the lines on' situation again.

I have no desire to see us at the Grove more than necessary, however, at least the attendance would be in 3 figures. I doubt Aggborough would be possible due to cost but at least it's only a bus ride away for those without cars. Unfortunately we are rather limited in our choices, The Dell is nowhere near up to SLP standards and both of our nearest suitable neighbours are in 'uncertain' situations. Perhaps the Southern League can 're-interpret' the rules like they seem to do for other clubs and give us away matches until September 1st again :hmm: :frustrated:

I believe that when we were promoted from the MFA, the SL stated that they weren't prepared to let us start with 5 away games so that ain't going to happen. I expect Kings Lynn would be referred to as a "special case"!

Incidentally, done some checking and there is a bus from Stourbridge to Bromsgrove on Saturdays at least.

The 318 bus (operated by Hansons of Wordsley) leaves Stourbridge Bus Station at 11:55 (arrives Bromsgrove 12:43 - plenty of time for a beer or two before the game!) with another leaving Stour at 13:35 (arrives Bromsgrove 14:23 - may be cutting it fine!)

Coming back there are buses leaving Bromsgrove at 17:44 and 18:44 which arrive at Stourbridge 45 minutes later.

[Granted it doesn't help for midweek games)
